Refer to the full tab when starting to play the whole song. To begin I will
teach you the song in smaller segments for easier learning. |
Part 1

|
left-hand

VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Videos Notes:
|
Try
to play the hammer-on so that it blends nicely with the notes that follow
it. Listen to my example over and over then try to repeat that sound.
|

Part 2

|
left-hand
VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Video Notes:
|
All the notes in part 2
are quarter notes. They should have a nice snappy normal counting pace
when played (one, two, three, four). |
Part 3
is identical to part 1.

Part 4

|
left-hand

VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Part 4 Notes:
|
You will notice that I am
using the index finger of the left hand twice in a row for both the second
fret notes. This is the proper method when fretting more than one note
on the same fret. |

Part 5
is identical to part 1.
Part 6
is identical to part 2.
*Always refer
to the complete song tab at the bottom
if you are
not clear about the order of the parts.

Part 7

|
left-hand

VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Video Notes:
|
This is a very good
exercise in itself as an alternating pattern. |

Part 8

|
left-hand

VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Video Notes:
|
This is a very good
exercise for practicing the hammer-on. One of the reasons it is one of
my favourites is that its fun to do because the partial C-chord has such a
nice sound to it. |

Part 9

|
right-hand

VIDEO |
Video Notes:
|
Part 9 is almost exactly
the same as Part 7 except the last open 1st string note is not played.
See the left-hand video in Part 7 for the correct fingering for Part 9.
|

Part 10

|
left-hand

VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Video Notes:
|
If played smoothly and
with the proper timing the slide can be a great technique to enhance your
playing. Remember to make the slide flow into the other notes.
|

Part 11
is the same as part 9 with the exception
of an
additional open note on the 1st string.
Part 12
is identical to part 8.

Part 13

|
left-hand

VIDEO |
right-hand

VIDEO |
Video Notes:
|
Notice how the first four
notes are T I T M with the right hand. One might be tempted to use
T I T I. That is something you must really avoid at all costs.
Always use the picking fingers indicated in the tabs. The whole idea of the
"3 finger style" (developed by Earl Scruggs) is to always utilize the 3
fingers whenever possible. |
